Juneteenth

All are welcome to join the Town of Brewster for music, food, and activities at Drummer Boy Park for a celebration of Juneteenth. Enjoy a fun day of talented performers, interesting activities, educational entertainment, and more, all in honor of Juneteenth.  Stay for the whole event or stop by for a quick visit!  

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in America and occurs on the anniversary of the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas on June 19, 1865, more than 2 years after the signing of the proclamation.

Kickoff the festival at the Drummer Boy Park gazebo for a re-enactment and reading of the Emancipation Proclamation.  Afterwards, you may choose to remain at the gazebo for a series of musical and theatrical performers or you can explore the park and take part in some of the other activities happening throughout the event.

You can also visit the Windmill for a special tour with the Brewster Historical Society, follow a Story Walk set up by the Brewster Conservation Trust, speak with local authors, enjoy a story time with the Brewster Book Store, get information and participate in games and face painting at one of the many activity and information tables, or grab a bite to eat from the Encore Food Truck, the Red River BBQ Food Truck, or Perry’s Last Stand Ice Cream Truck.
